Deep Throat

Mark Felt. This is one of those required blogging topics, right? Well I just blogged about it.

Admit it, though: we were all hoping for somebody more famous.

UPDATE: Okay, who should it have been? I think the coolest would have been Pat Buchanan. That would have made people’s heads freaking spin.

No, I always thought he was one of the most plausible candidates, though I never singled out a single suspect as an absolute favorite.
But I was a moderately serious Watergate fanatic ever since it was Today’s News. (I was fairly obsessively interested in the Nixon Admin in general, as well as Nixon’s life deeds overall, ever since he was elected, actually, which is pretty much the time I really crystalized my obsession with politics, as well.) So I certainly don’t claim to be representative of anyone other than myself. (At least you didn’t say you never heard of him, like Matt Welch.)

No, the coolest would have been Ben Stein.

Pat Buhanan was in top form tonight, sticking old knives into Felt the moment it was confirmed he was Deep Throat.
Personally, I have always felt John Dean was human debris. I don’t know full why Felt did what he did, but Buchanan’s histrionics tonight about loyalty were absurd.
