We Have Always Been at War with [Insurgents]
If you worry that I haven’t been snarky enough tonight, I should remark that variations on the word “insurgent” appear six times in the text of the Presidential Address. That’s once for every 1,000 times someone in the jingosphere has inveighed against applying the term to our enemies in Iraq.
Say it with me, people!
Why does George W. Bush hate America??

The new right’s preoccupation with word choice, essentially, “politically correct speech”, shows that they have adopted the worst habits of the extreme left-wing. Post-modernism, moral relativism, political correctness, identity politics, fiscal irresponsibility, you name it.
The modern Republican Party seems to have picked my brain for their philosophy of government, crafting it out of an equal mixture of everything I ever hated about liberals together with everything I ever hated about conservatives.

Jonathan,
I think that among certain prowar bloggers and pundits, the word “insurgent” was eschewed in favor of “terrorist”. Only terrorist sympathizers called them “insurgents”.

Indeed, I believe the word “insurgents” has appeared in scare quotes more often than the word “torture” in warblogs.

.
That’s objectively pro-Saddam Hamas-loving suicide-bombing ACLU-supporting terrorist sympathizers to you, buddy. Including, now, the President.
.
Blogosphering is hard work!

I believe the president may have misspoke himself, the word no doubt sounded like insurgents to you left-wing ivory-tower elitist academicians but a man of the people, possessed of the people’s tongue, such as the president is, was perhaps saying something else.
Words that may sound like insurgents when spoken by a true American are as follows:
In surgery
insolence
insolvent
Lynn Sturgeon
lip serling
terrorists
pedophiles
terrorphiles
pedoists
crackhead
surveilance
Watch what you say citizen
insert gents
it’s urgent
Buster Friendly
sperm the french
emergency
