I’d like to echo Max and Nathan Newman’s call to support ACORN, community organizers whose national HQ was in New Orleans (now destroyed). I had my differences with ACORN when I worked in allied organizations in the 1980s, but over time I have concluded that they were right in at least half of those disagreements, and that there are very damned few organizations really organizing, as they are.
Reconstruction is going to be a pitched political battle, and authentic N.O. neighborhood leaders will need to fight to be heard. ACORN is all about that fight; please support them.
Once again, I’m not able to get my links recognized as well-formed. If you’re motivated, go to maxspeak.org/mt, search on ACORN, and follow Max’s link.
