It’s a problematic word, no question. I know women who can’t abide it, and women who use it themselves. Diana, I think, is one of the former; Mrs. O among the latter. My impression of the latter is that they only use it when they want to call someone a really really really bad name. I personally tend to avoid it. Contrariwise, during Katrina I referred to the President as ”a great big cock,” and meant it to be a really really really bad name.
