Not Dead Yet

I haven’t written about it much, but the Balko-led effort to save Cory Maye from being killed for trying to defend his own home against midnight invaders continues to make some progress. While the blogosphere hasn’t succeeded in making it a national media issue, probably because there’s not partisan-squabble hook to it, the efforts of Radley and others have attracted top legal talent to the case.

If Cory Maye wins his appeal, this will be The Blogosphere ™’s greatest victory - it won’t be merely collecting metaphorical scalps in interparty sniping. It will be a life saved from unjust execution.

    When is a cop-killer on death row not a murderer? By rights, when he didn’t know the man he shot was a cop, and quite reasonably believed he was protecting his home against a violent break-in.

    Radley Balko, poring over court testimony and polic ….
