The Triumph of Libertarianism
George Mason University in the Final Four. Helps me regard the smoking ruin that used to be my first-ever pool brackets with a measure of serenity.
Fucking Duke. They make mock of my every endeavor. They outpace Maryland’s basketball team pretty much every year and then tank on me when I pick them to go all the way in the tournament. Anyway, inspired by GMU’s finest economists to think rationally, it’s time to kiss my ten bucks goodbye and root my heart. Go, you jumped-up commuter school off I-66! Go, Patriots!
UPDATE: On Hit & Run, someone links Slate’s “anti-Cinderalla” hit piece on mid-majors, to which D.A. Ridgely responds:
I had to laugh at the Slate article on ‘corruption’ in mid-major basket programs cited above when it ended with “Just stop telling me that Cinderella’s heart is pure.” Of course Cinderella’s heart isn’t pure; she’s a social climber who wants to marry a prince, not the nice fellow down the street.

The Politics of Basketball
Tim Cavanaugh, Jim Henley, and Radley Balko all say that George Mason’s ascension to the Final Four represents a victory for libertarianism.
It probably says more about the decline of Cinderella. Still, an interesting thought.
