Abstinence? Convincicance? CONSPIRACY????
Anyone else suggested the possibility that Joe Lieberman’s people hacked their own website to provide an excuse for the defeat their internal polls must have told them is coming? In addition to saving face, it would provide an excuse for a spoiler run in the general election despite what looks to be a very lame showing in the primary.
Update: Apparently the race is tighter than the early returns Reuters showed, but Lamont still holds a 2-3 point edge with over three fourths of precincts reporting. I’m sure Lamont is a terrible fellow – I speak here as a libertarian and, for crying out loud, the man’s a cable company executive! But Joe Lieberman is the guy who messed up a perfectly good remix -
It’s time for Democrats . . . to acknowledge that President Bush will be the commander in chief for three more critical years . . . at our nation’s peril.
with a bunch of extra verbiage. Lieberman came to personify the effort to cast all opposition to the Administration’s war policies as disrespectable fringe behavior. As a matter of principle, this is noxious. As a matter of practicality, it’s ridiculous in a member of the nominal opposition party. I foresee a future in which Lieberman becomes as bitter and menacing as Robert Bork became in the years after he was rejected for the Supreme Court. But I don’t plan to think about him much.

Charles Pierce over at TAPPED suggested that they were making a silk purse out of the sow’s ear of hiring idiots who paid for a hosting plan that would do for my mother’s birdwatching club, and getting a day’s worth of breathless OMG BLOGGERS R 1337 HACKORZ publicity out of their their bandwidth shortage. That seems more likely to me than the triple bank shot of faking a bandwidth outage/DDOS attack and then reporting it to the Feds.

Sorry, sometimes you can only say it with a picture. Santa comes early for the netroots as “deer” old Joe crashes and burns and incumbents everywhere cry, “Oh! Oh! Oh!”

Given that Tom Delay is out in TX 22 and the republicans cannot put anyone else on the ballot, and that Joe is both out and greatly beloved by Republicans, perhaps Brother Joe can return to the hallowed halls as a candidate for the House of Reps from Texas? After all, we know that the eligibility requirements are reasonably lax…

If this is true, apparently Lieberman just picked a cheap-ass webhosting plan.

Incidentally, this, no matter what I think of Tom DeLay (cough worm cough) seems like another good argument against this sort of electronic voting machine:
