A Competition in Suckitude

posted by Jim

The Republican Party sucks.

The Democratic Party sucks.

Getting played by your sources, so you can say you HAVE sources, sucks.

Re: passing on poisonous crap from sources -
The first sentence of the first comment goes in the ‘I stopped reading here’ file:
Does it really matter who these people are? The bottom line is we are finally allowed to take them out.

    Re: Democrats suck.

That they do, says one of them. That’s not a news flash. But it’s the wrong moment to throw up our hands in disgust.

This weekend I sat and listened and learned and strategized for hours with 1200 other people who’ve worked both in and out of the electoral system for decades. We’re clear-eyed, but combative. There seems to be a working and growing unity between left and lib-Dem antiwar activists that could make a real difference in the next year.

That could mean the difference between an Iran war and not. Or between impeachment as the result of an Iran war versus grinding on as now, tolerating endless war and creeping dictatorship at the Deciders’ whim.

IOZ and I are on the same side of the big question of war, so I’m not going to spend energy resenting being told that what I’m doing is futile. I’ve made almost all these same criticisms of the Democrats from the left, but have never let that keep me from taking organized action. Pessimism of the intellect and so forth.

    Me ditto^2.

Believe me, I have fantasies of what I’d do, if I were in charge. We all do.

    But we aren’t.

In a sense, that ‘they all suck’ attitude is part of the American Exceptionalism package. If you got kicked out of some random country A, and ended up in random country B, you wouldn’t (or, perhaps, shouldn’t) be surprised to find that country B isn’t perfect. Or to find out that the faction of B which was aiding you was also screwing over some other people, and had some rather unpleasant features.
