Right-wing Blogs Lack Gravitas, and the GOP Knows It
By Mona
Now, I have not been a big fan of Jane Hamsher’s, altho I had hissy fits when some on the right gave her shit over the Joe Lieberman blackface incident which, imo, was so not racist and totally on target. (Yeah, like Lee Atwater never lived even when I was voting GOP, but they do tend to forget true racist transgressions.) But she has this correct, and then some:
There have been rumors for quite some time that members of the GOP speak privately about what a bunch of useless, embarrassing wankers Malkin, Instahack, the Power Tools, Red State etc. are, so it’s amusing to see that they’re coming out of the closet about it, so to speak. .. people like Erick Erickson are pissed that their leaders are laughing at them. I get it.
Nothing in the right-o-sphere competes with the intellectual rigor of the liberal and non-neocon libertarian blogs. Nothing. She’s spot on there. Andthe authoritarian right’s Leaders have apparently indiscretely let loose their concordant opinion.

I’m about as leftist as they come (and an anarchist to boot, a libertarian-socialist I you will, or not) but how much of this is GOP pushback aimed at reining in RedState and their anti-Calvert(sp?)/corruption crusade?
And do you really want to be on this particular bandwagon?
At least the popcorn’s good.

It’s the MSM. ‘Liberal’ papers has a ratio of pro-war:anti-war columnists of many:jack sh*t. Lying for the president/GOP is considered to be a career-enhancing move for journalists and talking heads. The MSM led the American people to the war, and followed the American people from the war – with the utmost reluctance, and carefully nurturing all of their proven pro-war liars.
Given that, when the MSM’s idea of acceptable opposition tends to the lines of ‘if Comrade Stalin only knew what his subordinates were doing in his name!’, *of course* the grassroots whithered. They weren’t needed. And most of them were probably astroturf already.

This isn’t “intellectual rigor” Mona, this is a delusion of grandeur. What do you think the nutroots have accomplished besides shining a light on their hate?

LowAndSlow: I know, I know, don’t feed the trolls, but.
However, even the New York Times and Washington Post have acknowledged the role of the online magazine/blog TalkingPointsMemo in keeping the US Attorneys scandal alive when no one in the Emm Ess Emm was paying it any attention at all.
Oh, and there’s the whole “taking control of the Senate away from the Republicans” thing; the Macaca Moment was made possible by YouTube but was made significant by the left-wing blogosphere. So, other than determining the control of one of the branches of the US Government, and starting the fire that may finally engulf another one, no, one can’t say that the leftosphere has accomplished anything.

Yeah, election night Bill Kristol himself credited Jim Webb’s win to the blogs.

Yeah, but that was just Bill Kristol’s delusion of grandeur projected onto liberal blogs. Or, as some have suggested lately over at AmFoot, Kristol and some of the other neocons are CIA plants tasked with the mission of giving the rest of the neocons a bad name.

And they’re doing excellent work.
Seriously, that’s a silly idea. Everyone knows that the real story is Dick Cheney is really an Iranian mole. It’s an open secret in Washington, so I have no problems blowing his cover.

Yeah, but who do you think controls the Iranians? The CIA…

There’s actually been a far longer tradition of criticizing these cites from the right. Most of the sites Steve Sailer links to have been scathing of the neocon blogs for a long, long time.
