(Update) Of Disgusting anti-Neocon Bigots and Stupid, Odious Neocons

By Mona

As Jim notes a bit below, one of my posts was picked up approvingly by an ant-Semitic site which also has no use for Little Green Footballs. This unpleasantness reminds me it is past time to post a very important data point I encountered several months ago. Among Religious Groups, Jewish Americans Most Strongly Oppose War:

An analysis of Gallup Poll data collected since the beginning of 2005 finds that among the major religious groups in the United States, Jewish Americans are the most strongly opposed to the Iraq war. Catholics and Protestants are more or less divided in their views on the war, while Mormons are the most likely to favor it. Those with no religious affiliation also oppose the war, but not to the same extent that Jewish people do. The greater opposition to the war is not simply a result of high Democratic identification among U.S. Jews, as Jews of all political persuasions are more likely to oppose the war than non-Jews who share the same political leanings….
  • Jewish people oppose the Iraq war by a better than 3-to-1 margin, 77% to 21%.
  • Americans without a religious preference are twice as likely to oppose (66%) as to support (33%) the war.
  • Catholics are somewhat more likely to oppose (53%) than to support the
  • war (46%).
And while we are on the subject of Jews who are anti-war and anti-neocon, Glenn Greenwald — you know, one of those perfidious Hebrews — has confused the eminently confusable James Taranto into accusing Glenn of holding little objection to al Qaeda’s torturing people. Because you see, upon the publicity surrounding some documents describing various odious ways in which AQ viciously torments their victims:

We …checked the blogs of Andrew Sullivan and Glenn Greenwald, among the most hysterical accusers of America in the “torture” debate, and here is what they have had to say about the al Qaeda documents: .

“Silence is complicity, you know,” notes Glenn Reynolds.

Indeed.

Glenn Greenwald is an American citizen loyal to his country, and he has been meeting his duty of loyalty admirably. Further, he was living and working in Manhattan on 9/11, and to say his opinion of al Qaeda is low would be an understatement of absurd proportions. His writings demonstrate, however, that he would prefer the existence of these murderous barbarians not become the excuse by which his country falls into similar barbarism and lawlessness. It is beyond Glenn’s power to change Al Qaeda’s behavior, but he has been doing a yeoman’s job of calling this nation — his nation — away from the fearmongering of the Bush movement and the neocon’s warmongering, and back to its values — which, one suspects, is what the repulsive gasbag Taranto truly finds objectionable.

BTW, I don’t believe I’ve ever, not once, seen Glenn write a post condemning the rape of toddlers. Yes, I’m sure he has never done this. So one can only conclude… [eyes rolling] Indeed, fucking heh.

********

Update:

The righto-sphere (including her, of course) is having a meltdown that the media supposedly is ignoring some Al Qaeda cartoon depictions of vicious torture techniques. You vapid jackanapes, no sentient person catching the news in the last few years has had any doubts that Al Qaeda is a monstrous outfit that grotesquely tortures people. As but two representative examples, this story from last year on the horribly mutilated bodies — from torture — of two U.S. troops in Iraq, for which Al Qaeda took credit, and this from only ten days ago. Stories about heinous, sickening torture by terrorists in Iraq are so, so not new.
.
Read much, do you? Apparently not, if you think are all supposed to get excited by some manual found in an AQ computer right now, because gee, until it was discovered who’d a thunk AQ did anything but lay its captives in feather beds and feed them bon bons? Get. A. Grip.
.
And of course they were wrong about the media, as this right-wing site — that thinks the manual warrants the same level of attention as did Abu Ghraib — had to admit: it was actually that evil member of the dread Emm Ess Emm, CNN, that broke the story, and not Drudge as first claimed.
.
Well my fellow Americans, I already knew AQ was a bunch of barbarians, didn’t you? I have no interest in protecting the honor and integrity of that wretched group, but I do have an enormous investment in not seeing my own countrymen behave in an uncivilized manner, and having it become institutionalized. And I think we should stop at a place well before AQ’s “morality” which permits gouging out people’s eyeballs to punish them or extract information. Because of, you know, that wanting to be a proud American thing.

Now THAT, from the targets, to those being defended, to the entire subject, was a truly perfect and wonderful rant.

That Jews oppose the war in Iraq is not difficult to understand. Look what war did to the Jews in the mid 1930 to 40. Jews were the target of genocide. Does any rational person believe that after that, they could support war? Jews fight to defend themselves, not to gain territory or riches or to subjugate others, despite the fact that far too many people have been led to believe otherwise.

Hey-I believe the Jews who might oppose the war have something in commom with any well educated America. We know it is a farce, planned by Father Bush, Channey and Rumsfeld prior to their group having stole the Presidental Election. So there!
