More in the Saga of Having Been Wrong
By Mona
.
The Commissar, who came to his senses about Bush not much later than John Cole and I did, holds forth on this Peggy Noonan WSJ Op-Ed (that I find wholly disingenuous) quite too kindly, but I agree with him that :
Meanwhile, [Bush] continues to display extraordinary tone-deafness. “We’re going to be in Iraq for fifty years, like in South Korea.†Now there’s a statement. Why not lay it all out? “We are a just another imperial power, seeking to dominate the region permanently for its oil resources.â€
That’s the been the explicit point for a while now, Commissar. He, like many of us, was always very uncomfortable with the neocon-compatible Bush recipe for ragging on evolution and pandering to theocons. Some of us came later than others to see that such panderers can be trusted with nothing. Certainly not war.
.
Some, of course do not see it yet, and never will. They still figure we should be all agog over purple fingers, and STFU.

It depends on what you mean by “trust.”
.
I once had a cat named The Beast, precisely because he was beastly. One day, I was waving my hand in front of his face, and my wife said, “Aren’t you afraid he’ll bite you?”
.
“No,” I replied, “I’m quite confident he’ll bite me.”
.
Unlike Republicans, though, not only would I vote for him, I did.

I presume this is the evil Mona, occasionally thus described by Goldstein, and also quoted more favorably by Greenwald?
Anyway, I thought you’d say ‘welcome’ and give me a leftie secret decode ring, or something.
Seriously, my post was really about Capt Ed’s reaction to Noonan. And, just for the record, I don’t buy the ‘for the oil’ bit, but 50 year bases sure give ammo to those who are. … But I quibble.
Now where’s my decoder ring?

The Beast in ‘08. Everyone gets a bite.
“We’re going to be in Iraq for fifty years, like in South Korea.â€
–Well, *somebody* needs to teach the locals how to make competitively priced compact cars.
Since Japan pulled an imperial mulligan of sorts I suppose that meant America had to step up.

Of course you found the Pegster “disingenuous”. That’s what she gets paid for! (At least, one hopes so. Nobody can be as stupid as she routinely portrays herself.)
Did she say anything about divinely-guided marine mammals rescuing lost little Bush?

Commissar: Jeff Goldstein only resents Mona because she killed his dog and keyed his car after he broke off the affair. To me that level of personal animus has no place in the rarefied precincts of the blogosphere. Why can’t it be about the issues?

Yes Commissar, I am “that” notorious Mona. But really, between the sudden endoresement of South Korea the Model, and the insanely huge “Embassy” we are installing in Iraq, well, never-ending occupation and imperialism are words that just sort of demand to be employed.
I see Jim has given you your secret code. But be warned, we had an LGF infestation here and Jim Henley (!!) was informed that his is a “Marxist site.” So any participation here taints you with our cell’s activity.

If anything has managed to surprise Peggy Noonan afeter the military commissions act, I’d suggest she go back and take a look at Magna Carta, Locke, Jefferson, Wilberforce, and an interestingly pithy historical document called the United States Constitution.

Now where’s my decoder ring?
You’ll get it at the Michael Moore Film Fest next Sunday
