Interesting article. It’s quite true that it is often difficult to gauge exactly how many civilians and unofficial combatants are lost on a day-to-day basis, even in the course of a low-mid level conflict like Iraq.
Unfortunately the selectivity of the quotations is of real concern and the sources used - primarily media reports - are not any more reliable than government statistics, however contradictory.
