Dodd Done Good; So Did Blogosphere

By Mona
.
A man of principle who places the nation before his political ambitions, Sen. Chris Dodd’s filibuster and “hold” placed on the FISA/telecom amnesty bill today caused Harry Reid to balk and pull the bill from consideration until next year. We may yet lose this fight, but for now The People have won one. And as Greenwald notes in his Update IV on the issue, my emphasis:

I should underscore that the idea for Dodd’s hold originated with blogs and was prompted by blog readers urging Dodd to announce one (which he did within hours). That has had a genuine, direct impact on this process, and has been instrumental in ensuring that if the dirty deed is to be done, at least it won’t be done quietly and easily.
Read the rest of his updates for info as to how some on the ‘net are now planning to proceed, and join the effort if you are so inclined.

What pisses me off is the idea that it fell to the blogosphere to think, “Hey! How about putting a hold on that bill, Mr. Senators-for-decades? You know, holds? The things the Republicans use every week?”

Looks like my phone calls to Barbara Boxer worked.

Feinstein, you are dead to me.

I sent thank-you e-mail to Cantwell’s office, and will follow it up with print. (I’ve read that different folks often look at e-mail versus print, depending on how the office is organized, so doing both helps increase the office’s sense of what’s coming in as feedback.)
