(Update) Ron Paul’s Vote In the Not Exactly Libertarian State of Iowa….
By Mona
.
And to riff off of Jim with my own emphasis on CNN’s reporting:
Ron Paul had 10 percent.
Rudy Giuliani, who has turned the focus of his campaign to the February 5 “Super Tuesday” primaries, trailed with 4 percent.
Bwhahahahahahahaha. Yippeeeeeee!
*********
Update:
The LAT blog notes — Â in a post titled Ron Paul gets some revenge — how Rudy was riding high last May after a debate, when he slammed Paul for suggesting American meddling in the ME had anything to do with events such as 9/11:
As MSNBC’s online political note put it at the time, Giuliani may want to “hire out Paul for the campaign trail — he could be the Washington Generals to Rudy’s Globetrotters” (i.e., the patsy willing to get beaten in every game).
That was then, this is now. In Iowa, Paul, 10%; Giuliani, 4%.

Some interesting CNN entrance poll results for Ron Paul:
Among self-labelled “moderates” who voted Republican, Paul led in a tie with Romney (26% each).
Among voters 17-29 Paul got 21% of the vote, versus McCain with 7% and Thompson with just 4%.
Dr. Paul got 54% of the vote among voters for Republicans who said they are “angry” with President Bush, versus only 13% for McCain and even less for the other Republican candidates.
Paul scored higher among voters whose top issue was “Economy” than among voters whose top issue was “War in Iraq”
Paul at 29% led all the Republicans among voters who labeled themselves as “Independent” (vs. 19% for Romney and 17% for Huckabee).
Compared to other Republicans Paul had a higher percentage of low-income than high-income voters (interesting in light of Paul’s fundraising prowess).
0% of Paul voters labeled themselves as “liberal” (contrary to theory that much of Paul’s support comes from anti-war liberals crossing over from the Democrats).

There’s a theory that anti-war liberals would cross over from the Democrats during the Iowa caucus? I know anti-war liberals are widely perceived as stupid, but I missed that one.

I predicted, in a comment thread on this website, that Paul would not reach double digits in Iowa.
I was wrong.

I’m told Paul’s Iowa ads stressed his conservative bona fides (immigration and abortion apparently). I wonder if he’ll take a hint from the exit polls and start pitching his media toward self-styled moderates, since that’s where his warm market is.

This result gives me hope that Ron Paul will be very competitive in NH. I hoped that he would make 10% anywhere!
