Stay the Course, Baby!

America’s sanctions policy drives Fidel Castro from power in fewer than 50 years! Teach Cuba to mess with the USA! Factoring in distance, size and political conditions, I calculate that our Iraq policy can "work" with under two centuries of blood and treasure. I hope anti-interventionists everywhere will consider themselves rebuked by today’s news.

How about one millenium? The Pre-Millenial Dispensationalists will still be around in the USA, and they can make it part of their latest ‘the end times, and we really mean it this time’ fraud.

See, if we hadn’t voted for Bush there’s no way this would have happened. The Freedom Agenda is working!

Apparently more course-staying awaits, because he’s still the Party chair…

This is wildly off topic, but is anyone else sick of the phrase “blood and treasure”? The treasure reference in particular strikes me as silly rather than the sort of strong, solemn mood that I think is usually being aimed for. It’s more Long John Silver than Winston Churchill.

Doug – Clearly, this is another sin to lay at the feet of the sinister cabal of non-gold-based monetary systems. Someone tell the Ron Paul campaign!

(More seriously, I’ve never minded it except for its overuse; maybe because I always sang the verse about “while I sing of Yuletide treasure” in Deck the Halls and such. It doesn’t necessarily mean big chests of gold and silver to me.)

I’m with you, Doug. I’ve had a hard time looking at the phrase without my brain silently pronouncing the word tray-zhure.

I’ve actually had wingers argue that Bush’s Iraq policy was what caused Fidel to step down. Aaaarrrgggghhh.
