The closest book to where I’m sitting turns out to be The Death and Life of Great American Cities, by Jane Jacobs, sparing me from having to admit that Tolkien books sit just beyond it, and to claim, accurately but implausibly, that they belong to my wife. I am now directed to
- look up page 123 in the nearest book
- look for the fifth sentence
- then post the three sentences that follow that fifth sentence on page 123.
So then:
When heroin began to be sold from one of the apartments, a stream of drug addicts filtered into the street - not to live, but to make their connections. They needed money to buy the drugs. An epidemic of holdups and robberies on the street was one answer.
And there you have it!
I am not quite sure what the point of this meme is. Nevertheless, I tag Nell, Mark and Kerry.
UPDATE: First version of post failed to correctly link to Mark at Publius Endures. Doh!

Turn several times during cooking. YOu will have to do this in 2 or 3 batches. Remove the chicken from the pan and keep warm in the oven.

While I’m a huge fan of Nell, I don’t think it’s fair that your “Mark” link goes to Nell’s site as well as the “Nell” link.

I didn’t even know Nell had a blog until now. Even though she’s famous on Obsidian Wings.

yukio mishima - confessions of a mask
“Just as before, I kept this new feeling hidden in my heart, but to my love for the savage there had now been added a love for the graceful and gentle. Along with my natural growth there was developing something in me like a guardian’s love, something akin to boy-love. Hirschfeld divides inverts into two categories: androphils, who are attracted only by adults; and ephebophils, who are fond of youths between the ages of fourteen and twenty one.”
(the narrator is 12 at this time, btw)

The closest books to me are all in a stack balanced on the back of my couch, near my elbow. They’re all comics, except for two small text books that are under 100 pages.

O noes! I’m in town at an office with no books.
When I get home, the book that’s by my chair will make a nice break from the dismal focus of my blog…

I, too, want to know where Mark’s blog is.
@Noumenon: Not much of a blog. Posting at a rate of one-two a month, on bleak topics. Commenting is my natural medium.

“Rabbi Joshua b[en] Levi would say all the above mentioned verses.”–En Jacob [Agada Ain Yaakov]Legends of the Talmud, Vol. I.
Actually, that’s the third closest one. The closest one has only 112 pages and the second closest has only three sentences on page 123, the rest being filled by footnotes. (A halachic compendium
