Rent Party II: The Rent-Partyening

Hi Folks: Last year we had a very successful rent party for our beloved colleague Mona. The end result was not only getting her through an immediate crunch with some sweet, sweet, very generously donated cash from loyal readers, but also some ongoing, paid work that was compatible with her disability. This enabled Mona to stabilize her life and continue as the scourge of faux conservatives, fake libertarians and government liars and bullies, sometimes here, sometimes at The Art of the Possible.

Unfortunately and as you may have heard, the country as a whole has hit some economic reverses, and the slide has landed directly on Mona. One job disappeared on her, and another employer has failed to pay her four figures worth of salary she is legitimately owed. (NB: I reserve the right to name said employer at a later time. That would be entirely at my initiative, not Mona’s.)

So Mona’s in a tough spot again. She and I would be grateful for any contribution you could spare. Should you wish, you can donate via Paypal to Monaho@peoplepc.com.

The Paypal link, at least for me, leads directly to a “Your transaction could not be completed” page.

Oops. Thanks for the pointer. Simplified it by just linking paypal’s homepage. I thought there was a way to come up with a public “Donate” link but I’ve forgotten it, and a quick perusal of the help files does not refresh my knowledge.

I’m sure that my wife would have no problem with a receipt for a Paypal transaction to [woman's name]HO@[domain].

Bill: My last name is Holland, and thus the peoplepc folks — who are in India and have no idea what American cultural slang is usually about — well, they felt fine in that address to me. But I take your point. I should have, had I been thinking, made them add an “L.”

Whenever I’ve seen Mona’s address, I haven’t read it as “Mona, [a] Ho.” It has always first struck me as “Mona Ho-as-in-Don.” That’s a perfectly pleasant association.

I imagine Mona wearing a lei, merrily strumming a ukulele and dispensing tart rejoinders to assorted enemies of freedom. She looks very happy doing so. There is a roast pig supplied by a local enclave of organic farmers. Jim and Thoreau are very dashing in their islander skirts, and we’re all entertained by their fire dance.

Then they ask me to sing “Tiny Bubbles” while Mona plays the uke. At first I’m shy, but the heady mix of free-range, cruelty-free pig and strong Mai Tais awakens my inner rock star.

As the last few chords from the ukulele fade into the surf, the party-goers decide it most fitting that I no longer be profaned by this wretched earth … they gently strangle me with flowered cords and bury me under a marker that reads only “He serenaded the gods.”

Thank you all those who donated. I think I sent personal gratitude to each of you, but if I missed anyone, I apologize and thank you as well.
