It’s risky to speak for others, but I’ll hazard the suggestion that Pufferfish mistakes Thoreau’s point in his landmark entry downblog. He wasn’t saying, "Hey, I just realized Republicans were lying!" He was saying, "Hey, I just realized Republicans weren’t even lying to me." There’s a big difference between the two statements.
