Top 10 school! Yeah!
By Thoreau
US News and World Report placed my school in the top 10….
Among public universities.
That grant masters degrees but not doctorates.
In the western US.
I’m pleased to report that we are the best school along the I-10 between downtown Los Angeles and Claremont, althoughDeVry and a few community colleges are itching to kick our ass. Suck on it, DeVry!

Cal State LA? So how did you compare to say Cal State Northridge? Or Cal State Dominguez Hills?

Cal State LA? Blogger please. We kicked their ass. US News didn’t even rank them. Or Dominguez Hills. Or Northridge. But they ranked us. Top 10, baby….in a narrowly-defined category.

And a hearty but narrowly defined congratulations to you.

Lemme guess:
UVA was the number one public university? These rankings are really predictable.

Nah, Berkeley was probably No. 1 with UVA, Michigan and maybe UT Austin close behind.
What I want to know is how Thoreau gained this information, given that the annual USN&WR beauty contest results aren’t supposed to be public yet.

What’s sad about this is that within the California State system we’re the #4 (San Diego isn’t on that list because it’s a doctoral university, but they’d be ahead of us). Which means that the other 19 schools in our system are even shittier than us.
God help them.

Hmmm… so you’re relying on last year’s rankings or the supposed new rankings in 11 days is their glitch?

Oh, um….
I saw 2009 and figured they’re current.
That’s the caliber of fact-checking you get at the top school in a narrowly-defined category.

Well, at least now we understand your school’s ranking.
I keed, I keed!

I don’t.
I would have put San Francisco ahead of us, but they’re way, way, WAY down. Their Evil Fiziks types are first rate (they were early leaders in finding extrasolar planets) but I guess that doesn’t factor into the rankings.

I have deduced what your name is from this information. I won’t write it out on the blog, but here is one of your seminars.
[EDIT: Nicely done. For obvious reasons, I had to remove the link.]
