Cocktail Hag: The Blog

Anyone interested in some fresh, piquant and pithy voices may want to check out this site, spun off a few months ago by a few of Greenwald’s [I should say, some of] best commenters.

And the first thing I read is that sure the Post Office is all messed up, but it’s still mostly Bush’s fault.
My father worked for the USPS for 30 plus years *and* is an ardent Nader supporter, but even he will tell you that the problems with the organization that saved Santa Claus from going to the loonie bin were there back when dubya was still getting DUI’s while living in his dad’s basement.

Kolohe: Hey, I do not agree with every word or post written there, but in general they post interesting stuff.

All I’m saying is that, compared to the current top post, a post with simply ‘Bush sucks’ would be pithy (and true) – but not particularly fresh nor piquant. As it is, the current ‘big white lies’ post is imo none of the three
And I was going to let this go, and probably should but-
sure as heck wilson’s a dogwhistling mofo, but what on earth are progressives going to do when universal healthcare acomplishes its erstwhile goal and they are no longer able to make remarks about the dental care of poor white people? Or, like most stereotypes, will it be used it long beyond it’s expiration?
Or is the blog saying that Wilson is trying to court Arican Americans who “suffer greater early tooth loss, more tooth decay and more periodontal disease than Americans in general,” particularly in the rural south?

dang I just can’t stop-
on the emotional intelligence post – “Republicans have the mentality of a neglected three-year old; promoting this meme will reduce political polarization, and at the same time, inner city violence”

Predictably for campaign finance reform in the name of ‘free speech’ so that part doesn’t bother me, but this is a gem regarding fmr soliciter general Olson (of late trying to legalize gay marriage in CA):
Now *that’s* piquant! (and shows copius amounts of emotional intelligence)

Kolohe: Well, I’m certainly not going to defend that repugnant parenthetical about Barbara Olson. (And am surprised at the Hag; I wouldn’t have thought he’d write anything such as that.)
But I nevertheless find the site interesting. YMMV.

That’s a terrible thing to say. Our discourse would be better off without out.
Are there any UO bloggers who’d care to disagree? Keep in mind, Ted Olson is one of those powerful government people.

joe: I know you are appalled that some of us don’t think Joe Wilson’s shouting “Liar!” during Obama’s speech is The Greatest Travesty Evah, but while indecorous — and possibly a violation of congressional rules — it is not the equivalent of celebrating the death of a 9/11 victim. It pains me to say that because I like Cocktail Hag; but what he wrote about Mrs. Olson was awful.

But…but…Ted Olson is powerful. As in, the government.

“Unfortunately, to rid the world of the Joe Wilsons means we have to start with parenting and early childhood education.”
so cute!

Eh, the Reds still yammer on about Jimmy Carter to this very day. Nearly 30 years later. We’ll hear a lot about George W. Bush in the coming decades.

And Jimmy Carter was, at worst, somewhat below average.
George W. Bush was a uniquely awful president, possibly the worst ever. We went through 26 years when the range of presidential quality was calibrated to clearly distinguish between Ford, Carter, Reagan, Bush, and Clinton.
It’s like tuning your ear to distinguish the first five notes on the G string of a guitar, and then somebody plays the low E on a tuba.

Sorry, Mona, for tossing out something so offensive to many in such close proximity to your recommending my blog. But Ted certainly seemed to get over his bereavement pretty quickly, and Babs was never mentioned again. I’m no “truther,” except to the extent that we’ll never be allowed to know what really happened before, during, and after 9/11, and that pisses me off. Sorry to speak ill of the dead, but have any of you read one of Barbara Olson’s “books?”
She’s hardly something to be pitied, and she’s one of the many “none of your business” stories we’ve been forced to swallow.
Since I’m just a blogger, and not, say, the WaPoo, I felt I could toss that in.
