Some Kind of Innocence Is Measured Out in Years
I’m really just testing Qumana on my new Macbook here. I thought I would write about how I increasingly believe the nation is fvcked, and in a way that will make it hard even for anyone else to feel sorry for us. We blew it all on pointless wars and military hardware and our official discourse simply doesn’t extend much beyond the matter of whom we should be attempting to boss around now and how horrible it is that more countries won’t help us with the bossing. We must sound like that sort of drunk who is both belligerent and weepy. But it’s too depressing to post about.
On the bright side, the Mac beta of Google Chrome has given me minutes of trouble-free service since I downloaded it.

I’ve been really happy with the Chrome beta as well. Give it Evernote and 1Password plugins and I’ll likely switch.

PS: Chrome is covered by Evernote’s generic web bookmarklet. I just tried it out and it worked fine.

Jim, Alasdair MacIntyre contends that we live in a society in which politics is impossible, and all that passes for such is the post-political aftershocks.
I think he’s right.

For anyone who follows the link, the piece is from late 2002 or very early 2003, before the US invasion of Iraq.
Because Barry Deutsch reorganized his archives by topic only, and unfortunately didn’t include dates in the cartoons themselves, the date posted has no relationship with the original date of the cartoon — so there’s nothing but context to alert the reader.
