[...] You thought I was dead? No, I escaped from that shark. The full story is too long to fit into the margin notes here, but suffice it to say that some jumping and water skis were involved, followed by wandering in the wastelands between the timelines. I actually did find myself at the beach in downtown Santa Barbara yesterday, checking out the hippie vans (I’m not kidding), so whatever timeline we are in I at least got to take a trip back momentarily. And I solved a big, big important problem in my research. I managed to refrain from running down State Street, naked and wet, yelling “Eureka!” but it is nonetheless pretty exciting. There’s even a chance that I might get this accepted into Nature, once I iron out the details. And my wife and I got to hang around Santa Barbara with an old friend and eat some cupcakes. And Jim Henley did some of his finest blogging ever and made us all smile. [...]
